hello there, i’m paul nini, and it’s 2017. this collection of 15 songs represents output from my chequered musical past — which started in 1979, when i played in a college band doing garage-rock tunes. i then returned to columbus, ohio and joined some other bands. the first was househearts. i wrote a few songs back then that i pretty much hate now, though the bulk of our material was jointly written with bandmate bob robinson. after that I joined great plains, where i learned a lot from playing ron house’s songs (he’s still one of my favorite songwriters, by the way). i then got married, and we moved to chicago for a spell. i had a fine time writing songs with peck of snide bandmates mike ritt and steve lindstrom, two pretty great ‘writers of songs’ themselves. my current job as a professor of design at ohio state brought us back to columbus, and at that point i started writing songs that have appeared on releases by log, closet mix, and a variety of solo releases under various names, including at times my own. as it’s been almost 40 years since 1979, it seems like as good a time as any to put together this collection. sure, there were others i could have included, but these are all songs i still like hearing — so, there you go. many thanks to my wonderful, patient bandmates for making things sound both good and real. here’s to more years, songs, and releases, and thanks for listening.
